WASHINGTON, D.C.—Ahead of today’s Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies hearing, “Investing in America: Funding our Nation’s Transportation Infrastructure Needs,” the Americans for Modern Transportation coalition released the following statement from spokesperson Melissa Manson:

“We encourage all policymakers to consider the full breadth of policies that could be used to create a safer and more efficient transportation system – the answer is not merely limited to repairing roads and bridges. Supporting the deployment of modern trucking technology, like Twin-33 foot trailers for example, would require zero government funding, yet dramatically improve the safety and efficiency of our roadways.

“We applaud Senator Collins and her colleagues for hosting this discussion, and we are confident today’s hearing will serve as one of the initial steps toward creating a well-funded and modern transportation system. As President Trump reiterated during his address to the joint session of Congress last week, infrastructure investment is going to be a top priority for his administration and it’s critical to understand the nation’s funding needs before drafting any potential legislation.”
